COLLEGE FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : ACROSS THE NATION : Kansas State Foots Bill for Celebration
The University of Kansas soon will have a new goal post that its fans would rather not have. It is a present from archrival Kansas State.
Wildcat fans celebrating the end of a 25-year victory drought in Kansas’ Memorial Stadium tore down the north goal post after Kansas State’s 21-13 victory on Saturday in Lawrence, Kan.
Kansas State Athletic Director Max Urick apologized for the incident the next day and offered to pay for replacing and installing a new goal post.
The goal post costs about $2,700, Kansas spokesman Doug Vance said.
Wildcat fans also put purple dye in a fountain at Kansas, and 11 Kansas State students were caught trying to spray paint the area around the Kansas Union purple--incurring the editorial outrage of the Kansas student newspaper.
But there was no significant damage from game-related events, Vance said.
Kansas is on the road this week but will need the new goal post for its Oct. 22 home game against the Oklahoma Sooners.
