Zuzana Stunova
SCHOOL: Rio Mesa
SPORT: Tennis
YEAR: Sophomore
SEASON AT A GLANCE: Stunova, 15, was visiting the United States this summer and liked it so much she decided to stay. Stunova, ranked No. 2 among 16-year-olds in her native Czech Republic, is an exchange student at Rio Mesa and has made an impact for the Spartans. She has won 11 sets without a loss. “She has a cannon,” Rio Mesa Coach Steve Worthington said of Stunova. “I’m just amazed how she can generate power.”
WEEK AT A GLANCE: The 5-foot-5 Stunova kept Rio Mesa close in a 10-8 defeat to Marmonte League favorite Camarillo by sweeping three sets at No. 1 singles. The highlight was Stunova’s 6-4 victory over Monique Allegre. Allegre, ranked 10th in Southern California girls’ 18-and-under, is considered the area’s top high school player.
