August Restaurant Closures

The county Department of Health Services has the power to shut down food facilities for as short or as long a period of time as necessary for the owners to correct conditions that pose a danger to the public health. Here is a list of the restaurants closed during August.
Acapulco Mexican Restaurant--2060 E. Foothill Blvd., Pasadena. Closed 8/25 to 8/26. Broken sewer line.
Anthony Medina--8215 S. Broadway, L.A. Closed 8/23 and remains closed.* No public health permit.
The Beat--12000 S. Western Ave., L.A. Closed 8/1 and remains closed.* No public health permit.
Bette Jean’s Place--1513 Robertson Blvd., L.A. Closed 8/11 to 8/15. Vermin infestation.
Cafe Veracruz--225 West 5th St., L.A. Closed 8/2 to 8/3. Unsafe food temperatures, poor general sanitation, sewage system failure, vermin infestation, improper sanitizing or storage of multiuse utensils.
Carl’s Jr. Restaurant--166 Puente Hills Mall, Industry. Closed 8/4; reopened same day. Sewage system failure.
Compton Ice Cream--2100 N. Long Beach Blvd., Compton. Closed 8/11 to 8/23. No public health permit, vermin infestation, unsafe food temperatures, improper sanitizing or storage of multiuse utensils.
El Nayarit Restaurant--602 1/2-604 East 7th St., L.A. Closed 8/2 to 8/5. Unprotected food, improper dishwashing method, no potable water supply or no hot water, poor general sanitation, improper sanitizing or storage of multiuse utensils.
House of Blues--8430 Sunset Blvd., L.A. Closed 8/12; reopened same day. No potable water supply or no hot water.
J.B. Jackson--8009 S. Broadway, L.A. Closed 8/15 and remains closed.* No public health permit.
Japan West--8009 E. Florence Ave., Downey. Closed 8/18 to 8/19. Contaminated food, unsafe food temperatures, improper sanitizing or storage of multiuse utensils.
Jugos Dalia--1467 W. Washington Blvd., L.A. Closed 8/30 and remains closed.* No plans submitted, no public health permit.
La Cocina--3425 East 1st St., L.A. Closed 8/9 to 8/10. Unprotected food, poor general sanitation, vermin infestation, improper sanitizing or storage of multiuse utensils.
Larry Parker’s Beverly Hills 24-Hour Diner--206 S. Beverly Dr., Beverly Hills. Closed 8/22 to 8/23. Contaminated food, vermin infestation.
Latty’s Restaurant--7903 Alix Ave., Florence. Closed 8/5 to 8/16. Vermin infestation, contaminated food.
Los Tecomates--5757 1/2 Lankershim Blvd., North Hollywood. Closed 8/12; reopened same day. No potable water supply or no hot water.
Mom’s Donuts--15713 1/2 Downey Ave., Paramount. Closed 8/30 to 9/1. Vermin infestation, sewage system failure, improper sanitizing or storage of multiuse utensils.
MPV Seafood Restaurant--1412 S. Garfield Ave., Alhambra. Closed 8/1; reopened same day. Improper sanitizing or storage of multiuse utensils, sewage system failure.
Polly’s Pie Palace--501 Wilshire Blvd., Santa Monica. Closed 8/11; reopened same day. Sewage system failure.
Popeye’s Fried Chicken--1150 W. Rosecrans Ave., Gardena. Closed 8/4 to 8/8. No public health permit, vermin infestation, contaminated food, improper sanitizing or storage of multiuse utensils, poor general sanitation, improper dishwashing method.
Raji’s Cuisine of India--637 S. Fairfax Ave., L.A. Closed 8/25 and remains closed.* Vermin infestation.
Seafood Bay--1240 S. Soto St., L.A. Closed 8/9 to 8/24. No potable water supply or no hot water, sewage system failure.
TG Express No. 2--6056 Hollywood Blvd., L.A. Closed 8/18 to 8/23. Poor general sanitation.
Zorba’s Burgers--510 W. Compton Blvd., Compton. Closed 8/4 to 8/9. Unsafe food temperatures, poor general sanitation.
*Remained closed as of Sept. 1.
