A $40,000 race car was stolen from in front of the owner’s house Tuesday morning, Los Angeles police said.
Also taken were a custom-built trailer and a white F-150 Ford truck.
The thieves were fortunate to find the race car still parked on the trailer and attached to the truck, Police Sgt. Dan Maestro said.
About 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, the car’s owner, Nicholas Johanides, parked the truck and adjoining trailer and race car outside his house in the 5800 block of Oakdale Avenue, police said. Johanides discovered the car, trailer and truck missing about 9:30 a.m.
Despite a helicopter search, officers so far have been unable to find the yellow and red stock car with a number “17” painted on the door.
Police suspect that the colors will change quickly. “The thieves will probably strip it down and make their own race car out of it,” Maestro said.
The truck and trailer are estimated to be worth $55,000, he said.
