TARZANA — An 82-year-old man was killed as he crossed Ventura Boulevard mid-block and was struck by an oncoming truck, police said Sunday.
The victim, identified as Richard Allen of Tarzana, died instantly Saturday night of massive, multiple injuries, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County coroner’s office said.
Allen apparently stepped into the street between parked cars and was not seen in time by Dennis Reese, 18, of Encino, who was driving a 1988 Nissan Pathfinder, said Los Angeles Police Officer Robert Kalstrom.
Reese was not charged, although an investigation into the accident is continuing, Kalstrom said.
The incident occurred about 10 p.m., just east of Yolanda Street, in front of a Mann’s movie theater.
