Argentine President to Speak: In an effort to forge new U.S. business relationships, Argentine President Carlos Saul Menem and several of his cabinet members will speak at a daylong briefing called “New Trade and Investment Opportunities in Argentina” at the Institute of the Americas on the UC San Diego campus on Friday. Executives from several Argentine companies will also be there to talk about the country’s emerging markets, privatization programs and policies of interest to international companies. In recent years, Argentina has stabilized its currency and brought inflation under control. To bring down the double-digit unemployment rates seen this year, though, the country needs to reduce its trade deficit and stimulate foreign investment. For information, call (619) 453-5560.
