Designer Armani Implicated in Fraud

MILAN, Italy — Giorgio Armani, one of the two big names in Italian fashion implicated Saturday in a fraud scandal, confessed to paying a kickback to tax inspectors in return for easy treatment, his lawyer said.
Armani, whose clothes sell for up to $10,000 each, made the confession to top fraud buster Antonio Di Pietro, who also interrogated designer Gianfranco Ferre on Saturday.
The 60-year-old Armani became the sixth designer to become embroiled in the probe, which threatens to cast a shadow over Milan’s fashion shows, to open this week.
