New County Section Plan to Be Discussed

Members of the steering committee for the proposed Orange County high school athletic section will meet with the Southern Section executive committee Wednesday to answer questions regarding the break.
The executive committee is seeking responses to a list of questions submitted to Orange County officials recently. The questions concerned finances, playoffs and strategic planning.
The committee’s main concern is finances, according to a section member. Those concerns are also held by officials at the Anaheim Union High School District and the Fullerton Joint Union High School District. Of the county’s 15 school districts, they are the only two which have not passed a resolution supporting an Orange County Section.
The support of those two districts is considered necessary to form a section.
After meeting with the steering committee, Southern Section officials expect to draft a proposal for an Orange County Section and submit it to all Southern Section schools in the next two weeks. The motion will be voted on at the Southern Section Council meeting Oct. 20.
If approved, the proposal will go before the State Federated Council on Oct. 28.
An official said Orange County’s small private schools will likely remain in the Southern Section.
