PREP EXTRA / SATURDAY FOOTBALL PULLOUT : Valencia’s Rally Beats El Dorado

PLACENTIA — Trailing 24-14 at halftime, Valencia rallied for two touchdowns to defeat El Dorado, 28-24, in a nonleague game Friday night at Bradford Stadium.
The Tigers drove 92 yards in 10 plays to open the second half. Quarterback Joe Secoda capped the march with a four-yard scoring pass to tight end Chris Roussin, which brought Valencia to within 24-20 with 7:05 remaining in the third quarter.
Running back Damian Askins scored the winning touchdown on a six-yard run with 8:13 left in the game.
El Dorado got off to a fast start when Richie Williams returned the opening kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown. Valencia tied the score at 7-7 on its first drive of the game, when Secoda scored on a two-yard run.
Williams scored his second touchdown of the game on a two-yard run. It didn’t take long for Valencia to tie the score again, as Askins returned the ensuing kickoff 97 yards for a touchdown.
Jeff Stephens kicked a 40-yard field goal with just more than 11 minutes remaining in the first half to give the Golden Hawks a 17-14 lead. Quarterback Mike Marcicola scrambled for a 24-yard touchdown run with 36 seconds remaining in the first half to give the Golden Hawks their 10-point lead at halftime.
El Dorado drove nearly seven minutes on its final possession, but Valencia’s Jermaine Gray intercepted a Marcicola pass.
