SOUTH-CENTRAL : Body of Man Found at Meat Plant Identified as Inmate

The body of a man found in a 55-gallon steel drum at a meat rendering plant in South-Central was identified Friday as an escaped inmate from a state prison in Norco, officials said.
Miguel Corrales, 47, an inmate serving a 10-year drug sentence at the California Rehabilitation Center, was discovered dead inside the drum Thursday morning by workers at the Darling Delaware Co., which recycles inedible meat parts and grease for use in products such as pet food.
According to prison officials, the drum containing meat scraps was picked up early Thursday from the prison’s culinary facility by a refrigerated truck. Preliminary findings of the Riverside Sheriff’s Department indicate that Corrales was attempting to escape from the facility.
A spokesman for the Riverside County coroner said an autopsy will be conducted Monday.
