SOUTHERN SECTION FOOTBALL ROUNDUP : Valencia Takes It to Rio Mesa 38 Times in Camarillo Win

Roth Valencia of Camarillo High simply wore down Rio Mesa in a nonleague game between traditional rivals Friday night, carrying 38 times for 237 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Scorpions to a 30-27 victory.
But it took a 23-yard field goal by Shawn Nakamura with 2 minutes 32 seconds remaining to give Camarillo (1-1) the victory.
Rio Mesa’s last drive ended when Camarillo defensive back Bryon Nares intercepted a pass at the Camarillo 13-yard-line with 41 seconds left.
Most of the scoring came early. The score was tied, 20-20, at halftime and a 56-yard run by Rio Mesa quarterback Farhaad Azimi in the third quarter tied the score, 27-27.
Rashod Rose of Rio Mesa (1-1) rushed for 172 yards in 21 carries and two touchdowns, including a 67-yard run in the second quarter.
Camarillo quarterback Joe Borchard completed five of 10 passes for 121 yards.
