Nordhoff 20, Santa Ynez 17--Josh Hawkins rushed for 137 yards and intercepted two passes as Nordhoff held off a second-half rally at home.
Mike Gardia completed four of seven passes for 82 yards and one touchdown for Nordhoff (2-0).
On the first play of the second quarter, Gardia connected with Bobby Jones on a 45-yard touchdown pass play to give the Rangers (2-0) a 14-3 lead. Brian Farrar added two field goals to increase Nordhoff’s lead to 20-3.
Santa Ynez pulled to within 20-17 on touchdown runs of three yards by Allen Pinoli and 15 yards by Fiske.
A fumble on a mishandled snap on fourth down by Santa Ynez with one minute to play preserved Nordhoff’s victory.
Nordhoff running back Dallan Rigby rushed 13 times for 63 yards, including a three-yard touchdown.
John Fiske completed seven of 18 passes for 133 yards for the Pirates (1-1).
