Chaminade Enforces Zero Tolerance Again, 28-0

TIMES STAFF WRITER

Dominating defense did it again for Chaminade High.

For the second consecutive week, the Eagles held an opponent scoreless, overwhelming El Camino Real in a 28-0 nonleague game Friday night at Chaminade.

Spearheading a savage pass rush that recorded five sacks was senior linebacker Dino Dinielli, who spent the better part of the evening in the Conquistadore backfield.

Dinielli sacked quarterback Shaun Fishman three times, chasing the harried sophomore each time before dragging him to the ground.

Dinielli also recovered the loose ball after Jon Green blocked a punt at the El Camino Real 31-yard line midway through the fourth quarter.

“Funnest game I’ve had in a while,” Dinielli said.

All told, Chaminade, which defeated Agoura, 21-0, in its opener, held El Camino Real to 11 yards passing and minus-19 yards rushing and intercepted one pass. Sacks accounted for minus-50 yards.

The Conquistadores made only two first downs, both on Chaminade penalties.

“That’s two weeks of just excellent performance by the defense,” Chaminade Coach Rich Lawson said. “This is one of the best tackling teams I’ve had in seven years here.”

Said Dinielli: “Our defense is pretty unbelievable. We’re gonna blitz and just keep on coming.”

The Eagles’ running attack was dominating too. Junior tailback Jason Giovannettone rushed for 119 yards and two touchdowns in 19 carries. Giovannettone, who rushed for 85 yards last week, opened the scoring with a five-yard run with three minutes to play in the first quarter.

Giovannettone added an 11-yard touchdown early in the fourth quarter, three plays after running 25 yards to the El Camino Real 17. Giovannettone carried five times for 50 yards on the 65-yard drive.

Tom Racius threw a three-yard touchdown pass to Gabe Crecion in the second quarter.

Late in the game, reserve running back Scot Davis ran three yards for a touchdown.
