Civilians Capture Leader of Failed Coup

MONROVIA, Liberia — Civilians Friday captured, beat and stripped the leader of a failed coup disguised as an Arab and handed him over to African intervention troops.
Former armed forces chief Charles Julue led about 100 disgruntled soldiers who briefly seized the West African country’s seat of power Thursday. They were forced out by a massive assault by an African intervention force.
Battles between two other militias in the southeast sent refugees across the Cavally River into Ivory Coast, where 2,000 arrived in Tabou in 24 hours and thousands more awaited canoes to bring them over, a relief worker said.
