Coach: Steve Yancey (14th year).
1993: 21-8 overall, 4-1 in the South Coast League; lost to Corona del Mar in Southern Section Division I semifinals, 8-5.
Key returners: Andy Bailey, driver, Jr.; Sam Bailey, two-meter defender, Sr.; Tony Duynstee, driver, Sr.; Jim Farley, two-meter man, Jr.; Gabe Gardner, goalkeeper, Sr.; Jonathan Hewko, driver, Sr.; Colin Shaughnessy, two-meter defender, So.
Key newcomers: Cy Bassett, driver, Jr.; Jordan Hewko, two-meter man, Fr.; Ryan Jordan, driver, Sr.; Jon Palazzo, driver, Sr.; Sean Spraker, driver, Jr.
Outlook: San Clemente hasn’t won a South Coast League title since 1990, but with El Toro moving to the Sea View League, a title this year should be fairly easy for the Tritons. But Yancey isn’t ordering the banner yet. “I have to hope that what everybody is saying and touting for our season plays out,” he said. “But I’m a here-and-now person and I want to win here and now.” It’s an experienced, talented team, led by Sam Bailey, a third-team All-Division I selection, and Gardner, who at 6 feet 8 is the most imposing goalkeeper in the section.
