The Ventura County grand jury on Wednesday indicted a Port Hueneme man, charging him with the murder of a convenience store clerk during a botched robbery last month.
Deputy Dist. Atty. Patricia Murphy said Adolfo Lopez Carrillo, 32, also was charged with use of a deadly weapon and inflicting great bodily injury for allegedly stabbing Mohineer Bassi, 42, of Canoga Park on Aug. 19.
Carrillo is accused of entering the B-Mart convenience store on East Pleasant Valley Road in Port Hueneme and stabbing Bassi several times in the chest and stomach while attempting to rob the store. Bassi staggered to a nearby bar before collapsing. He was transported to St. John’s Regional Medical Center, but died in surgery, according to the Ventura County coroner’s office.
Carrillo is being held in Ventura County Jail in lieu of $250,000 bail. He is scheduled to be arraigned today in Ventura County Superior Court.
