Golden West College is offering a series of Saturday workshops to train people in the use of pepper spray and Mace. Those completing the course and passing a test will be given a certificate required by the state to legally carry the stinging sprays.
The course, from 9 a.m. to noon on Sept. 24, Oct. 15 and Nov. 5 in Room 110 of the Business Building, will be taught by retired Westminster Police Capt. David E. Wiggs.
“Participants will learn how to properly use pepper spray and Mace,” said Michelle MacLean, a spokeswoman for the campus. “Limitations for use will be discussed, as well as procedures for first aid and decontamination. The psychological and physiological effects of these substances on humans will also be addressed.”
The program fee is $35. Advance registration is available by calling the college’s Community Services Office at (714) 891-3991.
