Treatment Needed

Regarding the Aug. 16 article on the arrest of a 29-year-old male from Fillmore: It took 50 law enforcement officers. Have we taxpayers no say in this craziness?
This young man has repeatedly gone to jail for alcohol-related crimes. Did it ever occur to the district attorney and judge that this man should be treated at a recovery center with follow up for at least one year? We must recognize alcoholism as an illness. It is serious and endangering to others.
By providing more treatment centers, focusing on employment after release and living conditions, maybe we could help. By jailing these individuals we do not improve them; we further provide no hope.
Why can’t we utilize our tax dollars to better advantage? Shame on our system. Our fellow human beings deserve better.
