Heather Garritson
Buena Park, Freshman
Cross-country
Garritson quickly lived up to the family name. In her first high school competition, she broke the freshman record at the Laguna Hills Invitational by 37 seconds, winning the three-mile race in 17:41. Sister Carrie, now at Alabama, set the sophomore record of 16:53 in 1991. Heather Garritson said she started training harder late this summer. “We just dropped my sister off at Alabama a couple weeks ago, and after that I started trying to keep up with my brother (Garrett, a Buena Park junior) in workouts,” she said. Now the rest of Orange County high school runners will have to try to keep up with her.
