Santiago
Coach: Peter Hernandez (ninth year).
1993: Garden Grove League champions; ninth at Orange County Championships.
Key returners: Gerald Bayard, Sr.; Franky Hernandez, Sr.; Henry Hernandez, Sr.; Sergio Lopez, Sr.; Ben Mejia, Sr.
Key newcomers: Antonio Baez, Fr.; Luis Carletta, Sr.; Peter Cervantes, Jr.; Carlos Cortez, So.; Noe Henriquez, Sr.; Adam Trinidad, Sr.; Kenny Van Hook, Sr.
Outlook: The Cavaliers have dominated the Garden Grove League the past two season, but this year they should also play a role in determining the county’s final standings. They are led by the brother combination of Henry and Franky Hernandez. Henry won the league individual title last fall, with Frank just two seconds behind him as the runner-up. Mejia finished seventh in the league finals and will assume the third-man role for Santiago. Lopez and Bayard return as experienced veterans. Hernandez needs only a seventh man, but with more than 60 runners at practice, one ought to emerge. Van Hook, Carletta and Trinidad are all seniors with a shot.
