PREP FOOTBALL ROUNDUP

Bell 14, Bell Gardens 7--The difference between Bell and Bell Gardens in their season opener was in the number of weapons employed. The Eagles had too many for the flailing Lancers to handle in the intersectional game.
With virtually no pass protection, Lancerquarterback Guillermo Alvarez was sacked six times, four in the second half. Meanwhile, Bell quarterback Gus Valenzuela completed 11 of 19 passes for 131 yards and one touchdown.
Running back David York rushed for 63 yards in 16 carries, including the Lancers’ only touchdown. York’s one-yard touchdown run was set up by wide receiver Tideo Gonzales, who caught a 61-yard pass from Alvarez.
B--Valenzuela 6 run (Campos kick)
B--Alcala 10 pass from Valenzuela (Campos kick)
BG--York 1 run (Vasquez kick)
Records: Bell 1-0; Bell Gardens 0-1.
Next week: Fremont at Bell; Nogales at Bell Gardens.
