Missy Clements had a match-high 23 kills and teammate Aimee Stone added 16 kills, but the Cal State Northridge women’s volleyball team lost to 17th-ranked Arizona in the San Diego State tournament Friday.
Arizona’s 15-12, 15-9, 14-16, 16-14 victory was Northridge’s second loss in a row, but it was an improvement over Wednesday, when 15th-ranked USC swept the Matadors, 15-12, 15-10, 15-8.
Clements’ season-high 23 kills gave her 93 for the season and moved her into third on the all-time Northridge career list with 996.
Stone added 16 digs and four total blocks for Northridge (3-2).
Heather Anderson had eight kills and 10 digs for the Matadors while Kathleen Shannon contributed 47 assists and 12 digs.
Arizona (2-1) was led by Melissa Harris and Barb Bell.
Harris had 22 kills, 12 digs and four total blocks, while Bell added 20 kills--on a .375 hitting percentage--and 13 digs.
Northridge will play San Diego State and Hofstra in its final two matches of the tournament today.
