PRO FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : RAMS : Henley Expected to Raise Bond Money
- Share via
The agent for Ram cornerback Darryl Henley said Friday he has a “high degree of confidence” that his client can raise an extra $400,000 bond ordered by a federal judge.
Marvin Demoff said Henley will likely raise the money through friends, although the additional amount “obviously creates a problem.” John Shaw, Ram president, also said it was his understanding Henley would have no trouble coming up with the extra money.
On Thursday, U.S. District Judge Gary L. Taylor ordered that Henley’s local bail--the amount he is required to post while he is in the Central District of California--be raised from $200,000 to $600,000. Henley had already posted the original $200,000, secured by his parents’ property in Upland.
The additional amount, which includes a 10% cash deposit, must be raised by next Friday.
The Rams have posted a separate $2-million bond for Henley that applies to the time that he travels with the team. Part of that bond is secured by a $1-million insurance policy with Lloyd’s of London.

Tight end Troy Drayton caught only six passes in four exhibition games and didn’t catch a ball in the season-opening victory over Arizona. But Coach Chuck Knox insists Drayton isn’t lost in the team’s game plan.
“We had some balls called for Troy last week,” Knox said. “We have every week. One time, he wasn’t exactly where he should have been, or he probably would have had a big play. The other time, the quarterback fell down, and Troy was wide open. It would have been a 40-yard completion.”

Backup left tackle Wayne Gandy, the Rams’ first round-draft pick who barely played in the season opener last week, split time with starter Clarence Jones in practice Friday. “He’s got a chance to play some,” Knox said of Gandy. “He’s coming along pretty good.” . . . . Defensive end Gerald Robinson, running back James Bostic, offensive lineman Chuck Belin and linebacker Brett Collins are inactive for Sunday’s game.
