Property Assessment Appeals Due Soon
Ventura County property owners dissatisfied with the county’s assessment of their property values have until Thursday to file an appeal.
The requests to lower taxable values must be filed with the clerk of the Assessment Appeals Board at 800 S. Victoria Ave. by 5:30 p.m. or be postmarked by Sept. 15. Forms may be obtained from the appeals board or the county assessor’s office.
Already, the county has received nearly 2,000 appeals--more than twice the number filed last year. Many of those appeals were filed by oil companies and the Bank of America.
The bank filed 515 appeals on parcels it owns in the financially troubled Wood Ranch development in Simi Valley. The bank contends the county assessor has overvalued the lots, most of which sit vacant.
