A 49-year-old Ventura man died Thursday of head injuries a week after he was struck by a car while walking through traffic on Victoria Avenue, authorities said.
Richard Faulkner had been hospitalized in the intensive care unit of the Ventura County Medical Center since the accident on Aug. 31, authorities said.
Faulkner was hit after he walked through traffic on Victoria Avenue near California 126, Ventura County Coroner Jim Wingate said.
“Evidently two or three cars missed him and he was hit by a car and a light truck,” Wingate said. Faulkner was pronounced dead Thursday at 1:40 p.m.
Faulkner lived with various friends in Ventura and is survived by a sister, Barbara Courtenanche, of Hydesville, Calif., Wingate said.
Faulkner, who was also known as Richard Outland, was the adopted son of the late Charles Outland, a noted Ventura County author and journalist from Santa Paula, according to Hazel Outland, Charles Outland’s sister-in-law.
