LOS ANGELES : Public Works Board Chief Quits to Join Hahn’s Staff

In a high-level City Hall restructuring, Charles Dickerson, president of the city’s powerful Board of Public Works, announced his resignation Thursday to become a special assistant to City Atty. James Hahn.
Dickerson, formerly a private attorney, was named by Mayor Richard Riordan last year to the five-member board, which wields strong influence on everything from filming permits to sewer construction.
Sources said that Dickerson will probably be replaced by Ellen Stein, a member of the Animal Regulation Commission and the wife of mayoral adviser Ted Stein.
Hahn also named Evan Braude, a former prosecutor and Long Beach councilman, as a top aide. Braude will handle transportation and environmental matters in the city attorney’s office, while Dickerson will focus on economic development and risk management.
