Calstart ‘Baby’ Leaves the Nest: Amerigon Inc., a high-tech vehicle components manufacturer launched by Calstart founder Lon E. Bell, announced that it will move to a new facility in Monrovia. One project of Calstart, the public-private consortium attempting to foster an advanced transportation industry in the state, is a low-cost “hatchery” for new businesses. The incubator, located at Calstart’s Burbank headquarters, offers a machine shop, prototype fabrication facilities, vehicle-testing equipment and help with financing start-up companies entering the market for electric, natural gas or other alternative-fueled vehicles. Amerigon has grown to a market valuation of $63 million, and to 60 employees from 10, since it was founded in 1991.
