The 67th Los Angeles County Fair opens Friday morning and is expected to draw more than 1 million visitors before closing Oct. 2.
This year’s fair, themed “The Big Howdy,” will include miniature potbellied pigs, Chinese acrobats and a 200-pound boa constrictor.
The opening day parade is scheduled for Friday at 7 p.m. on the Fairplex grounds in Pomona, off the San Bernardino (10) Freeway at Fairplex Drive. The fair also will include carnival rides, entertainment and contests. Other scheduled attractions: bungee jumping exhibitions, countryWestern line dancing and puppet theater.
In 1992, adult admission prices increased by 20%; that year, attendance fell by 23% compared with the year before.
Last year, fair officials rolled prices back to 1991 rates and attendance increased 12%, but it still failed to meet the all-time high of 1.6 million, set in 1991.
Prices this year are the same as last: $8 for adults; $6 for people 60 and older; $4 for children ages 6 to 12, and free for children 5 and under. Parking fees vary from $4 to $10.
