âQueenâ for a Season
I was glad to see a question about George Nader in Sundayâs TV Times (Aug. 21). I always felt he was underrated, but I must take exception to your statement, âNader was the first âEllery Queenâ in 1958.â I am old enough to remember âEllery Queenâ with Lee Bowman (his best part, in my opinion) coming on live television as a summer replacement and later becoming a regular TV series.
John McCarthy, Culver City
Editorâs Note: George Nader, in fact, played the third network âEllery Queenâ and the fourth overall. Richard Hart was first (Dumont, 1950-51); Lee Bowman, second (ABC, 1951-52); Hugh Marlowe, third (Syndicated, 1954); Nader, fourth (NBC, 1958-59); Lee Philips, fifth (NBC, 1959); and Jim Hutton, sixth (NBC, 1975-76).
