Thank you for that marvelous piece on the Scilly Islands! (“Scilly Season,” Aug. 14). I was there in July and have been searching in vain for an informative article since virtually none of my friends had even heard of this corner of the world.
I wish you had mentioned Bant’s Carn, reputed to be the oldest structure in Britain, dating from about 2000 BC, and Halangy Down Village Ruins northwest of Hugh Town on St. Mary’s. These are fascinating and from Bant’s Carn, one can see Tresco along with several other islands and rocks.
I also would urge a visit to the Isles of Scilly Museum in Hugh Town that displays local artifacts from the Bronze Age to the present.
