Grambling State’s Kendrick Nord passed for 485 yards and seven touchdowns and Alcorn State’s Steve McNair passed for 534 yards and five touchdowns as Grambling escaped with a 62-56 victory Saturday night.

The two teams combined for 1,318 yards total offense. Grambling rolled up 612; Alcorn 706.

In an incredible offensive display, the two teams combined for 70 points in the first half, battling to a 35-35 standoff before a record Robinson Stadium crowd of 25,347.

McNair completed 27 of 52 passes and also rushed for 99 yards, giving him 633 yards total offense, just 10 short of the Division I-AA record. McNair, who was 3-0 against Grambling, had one final shot at rallying Alcorn, but his pass on fourth-and-10 from the Grambling 11 with four seconds left was knocked down by freshman Christopher Sampson in the end zone.
