Eddie Martin Will Be Remembered
* I’m afraid the item “Eddie Who?†(Newswatch, Aug. 29) may have left the wrong impression with many of your readers about the dedication of those of us at Martin Aviation to the memory of our founder, the late Eddie Martin.
No one, no group, and certainly no organization will be sadder to see the coming demise of the old Eddie Martin Terminal building than we. But we also recognize that the building is simply not capable of being restored for any kind of public use. Nor has there ever been any particular joy at Martin Aviation over the name change of Orange County Airport itself. However, it is not true that the only thing remaining in the memory of Eddie will be the display of Eddie Martin memorabilia at our headquarters.
Indeed, the name Martin Aviation by itself is a tribute to Eddie and his brothers Floyd and Johnny. As for the name of the new Martin Aviation headquarters, that will continue to be known as Martin Aviation. Forget Eddie Martin? We wouldn’t--and couldn’t dream of it.
