Toyota, Nissan, Honda Raise 1995 Car Prices

DETROIT — Three Japanese auto makers announced 1995 price increases on selected cars Friday as the U.S. dollar’s weakness against the yen continued to squeeze importers.

Lexus, the luxury division of Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A., said 1995 prices for its ES 300, GS 300, SC 300 and SC 400 models will be increased 5% over initial 1994 prices on a sales-weighted average, amounting to $1,750 a car. The increase is 1.9% over final 1994 prices, or about $687 a car.

“These increases reflect the continued decline of the dollar versus the yen,” Lexus general manager George Borst said.

Nissan Motor Corp. U.S.A. said it will raise the suggested retail prices of 1995 Maxima and 240SX models an average of 2.5%, or $568 a car.

American Honda Motor Co. said 1995 Civic prices will be an average of 1.7% higher than final 1994 prices, or $225 a car. Honda makes about 75% of the Civics it sells in the United States at plants in Ohio and Ontario.
