PREP FOOTBALL ’94 / GOLDEN WEST LEAGUE : 1993 IN REVIEW : Highlights

This is the Golden West League’s inaugural season. Ocean View, Santa Ana, Servite and Westminster move from the Sunset League, and Saddleback and Tustin arrive from the Sea View League. None of the teams qualified for the Southern Section playoffs last season. Santa Ana senior quarterback Mark Fausto passed for 2,064 yards with 13 touchdowns and 16 interceptions. He also led the team in rushing with 334 yards and three touchdowns. Tustin senior running back Lamar Barrett rushed for 663 yards with eight touchdowns. He averaged 6.4 yards per carry. Westminster scored its most points of the season in a 43-29 Sunset League victory over Santa Ana on Oct. 22. Servite, which lost five of its first six games, won two of its last four. The Friars (3-7, 3-4 in Sunset League play) were fifth in league, the highest finish among teams in the Golden West League. Ocean View came close to ending its losing streak, which reached 29 games at the end of the 1993 season, on Oct. 22. The Seahawks lost to Servite, 14-12, in a Sunset League game.
