Community Session to Address Gang Violence

Gang and youth violence among Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in the West San Gabriel Valley will be discussed this evening at a community meeting at Cal State L.A.

More than 50 people from Alhambra, Rosemead, Monterey Park and surrounding areas are expected to attend the free session, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Roybal Institute Conference Room on campus. Issues include the impact of the “three-strikes” legislation that requires life imprisonment for repeat offenders and the effect of Proposition 187, which would deny public services and education to illegal immigrants.

The forum is the third in a series of four held by the Gang Violence Bridging Project. Previous meetings in East Los Angeles and South-Central Los Angeles concentrated on Latino and African American youths. A final conference Nov. 19 at Cal State L.A. will unite all the groups.
