HARBOR AREA : Retrofitting of 4 Bridges to Begin in November
- Share via
Four bridges that link communities in the harbor area will be retrofitted in a $5.8-million state Department of Transportation project.
The bridges are Hobson Avenue Bridge, which crosses Pacific Coast Highway in Wilmington; Wilmington Bridge, which crosses the highway in Long Beach; Channel Street Bridge, which crosses the Harbor Freeway near San Pedro, and Terminal Island Bridge, which crosses the Terminal Island Freeway on Terminal Island.
The projects will bring the bridges up to earthquake safety standards, said Caltrans spokesman Rick Holland.
Steel supports enclosed with steel casings will be built on the bridge columns, Holland said, and foundations will be enlarged.
Construction is expected to start in November and will take about 11 months.
