Bullfrogs Beat Calgary With 3 Shootout Goals

The Bullfrogs broke a four-game losing streak with an 8-7 shootout victory over Calgary in a Roller Hockey International game in front of 1,684 Friday at Max Bell Centre in Calgary.

The score was tied, 7-7, at the end of regulation and the Bullfrogs scored three times and Rad’z none in the shootout. Brad McCaughey scored the clinching goal in the shootout for the Bullfrogs (13-7-1). Calgary is 11-9-1.

The Bullfrogs, the league’s defending champions, move into second place with the victory.

“There was pressure on both teams in regards to their finish in the standings,†Bullfrog Coach Grant Sonier said. “It was good for us because the game went back and forth, which is typical of a playoff game. It was a great motivator.â€

The score was tied, 3-3, at the half, and, 5-5, entering the fourth quarter. Calgary scored early in the quarter. But the Bullfrogs came back to tie on a goal from Bobby McKillop. Anaheim capitalized on a two-man advantage to take a 7-6 lead on a goal by Jim Brown.

Calgary tied the score with about 45 seconds to play.

McKillop had three goals, for Anaheim, which ends the regular season with a game Sunday at Edmonton.

“This was a really big win for us,†McKillop said. “All week we really worked hard and got back that fighting spirit. Now we have that fear of losing in us, but we really thrive on winning. Our goal from Day 1 was to win the championship for Anaheim, and if we do, nobody will remember this little slide.â€
