Need a Good Western

After reading the article on Dan Gordon and what befell his script for the film “Wyatt Earp” (“Leave ‘Wyatt Earp’ Off His Tombstone,” Aug. 5), I am left with two conclusions. One, that filmgoers lost out on what would have been an excellent or at least fascinating film. Two, that Lawrence Kasdan’s overhaul of the script, however well-intentioned it may have been, was a fatal error.
And, while we’re at it, here’s a really radical idea. Get Gordon’s script and make the film as he envisioned it. We’re seriously overdue for a good Western.
