Rocking the Boat

No matter who wins the race, history will be made at the 1995 America’s Cup. This time, for the first time in 144 years, there will be an all-women team competing in the waters off San Diego.
And these women aren’t landlubbers thrown together for novelty’s sake. Between them they’ve earned Olympic medals for rowing, championed yachts, learned to design boats and wind surfed a Peruvian lake in a day. They’ve navigated great lakes and cruised through a few sounds. These women are sailors .
They’ll be one of three American teams competing against eight teams from five countries. It won’t be easy. But trailblazing never is.
