Terry Noe of Fullerton advanced to today’s semifinals of the U.S. Junior Amateur Golf Championship with two victories Friday at Echo Lake Country Club in Westfield, N.J.
Two victories by Noe today would mean a fourth consecutive title for an Orange County golfer. Tiger Woods of Cypress won the previous three.
Noe, who will be a junior at Sunny Hills High this fall, had an easy time in his morning match, routing Allen Chaney of Columbus, Miss., 6 and 5. It got tougher in the quarterfinals, where Noe edged Darren Angel of Northridge, 1-up.
Today, Noe will face Puerto Rico’s Mauricio Muniz, who defeated Wilfredo Morales of Puerto Rico in 19 holes in the third round and Charles Woerner of Sunnyvale, 3 and 2, in the quarterfinals.
Charles Howell of Augusta, Ga., reached the semifinals for the second consecutive year by eliminating favored Ted Oh of Torrance, 1-up, with a six-foot birdie putt on the final hole in the quarterfinals. He will meet Andy Barnes of Stockton today.
Howell also scored a 1-up victory in his morning match against Jeremy Anderson of Lake Park, Fla. Barnes beat Brandon DiTullio of Thousand Oaks, 3 and 2, and Boyd Summerhays of Farmington, Utah, in 20 holes.
The tournament is for players under 18 with a handicap no higher than 9.4.
