You Couldn’t Say He Won in a Breeze

Today’s article, “Mitchell Makes Point in Bad Will 100,” makes the statement that Dennis Mitchell’s time was “respectable considering the stiff wind of 1.9 meters per second in his face.”
Silently grumbling about what quasi-socialistic forces must be at work in this country for it to have come to this, I set about converting this to American numbers.
My calculation went as follows:
--1.9 meters per second times 3,600 seconds per hour equals 6,840 meters per hour.
--At 1,625 meters per mile, divide 6,840 by 1,625 to get 4.21 miles per hour.
Is this the “stiff wind” your article refers to? Why don’t we stick to American from now on in the sports page?
