Gilmore Continues to Be an Influence

Thank you for Lynell George’s article on Mikal Gilmore (“A Legacy Survived,” July 6).
I have been an admirer of Gilmore since his days as a rock critic for the (now-defunct) Los Angeles Herald Examiner. Reading his reviews of artists ranging from Prince to Fleetwood Mac to Johnny Cash to the Sex Pistols made me seek out music I otherwise may not have discovered.
That Gilmore overcame a background of family violence and pain is truly an inspiration to me.
