Opponent Says Texas Senator Planted Spy

AUSTIN, Tex. — Republican Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison planted a spy in rival Richard Fisher’s campaign, the Democrat charged in a complaint filed Wednesday with the Federal Election Commission.
Fisher’s campaign manager, Robin Rorapaugh, said she learned about the spy when she overheard a conversation on an airplane from Dallas to Austin. She said she was seated near Hutchison’s husband, Ray, and other GOP officials.
Rorapaugh said Ray Hutchison told the others: “We’ve had a spy over there . . . We know everything they’re doing.”
A spokesman for the senator denied the charge.
