Kim Reportedly Wants Summit With S. Korea

BEIJING — Kim Jong Il, North Korea’s new leader, said he would seek a summit meeting with South Korea’s president and continue talks with the United States about North Korea’s nuclear development, a South Korean newspaper publisher said Saturday.

“A North-South summit is just a matter of time,” said Bo Hi Pak, publisher of South Korea’s Segye Times.

It was the first time that the son of Kim Il Sung, who died July 8, was reported to have spoken about policies he intends to follow.

U.S. talks with North Korea are set to resume Aug. 5. But there had been no indication that North Korea would seek to reschedule a summit with the South.
