Police are searching for a gunman who fatally shot a 23-year-old Ventura man early Thursday morning in the bedroom of the suspect’s girlfriend.
Roger Rowland died at Ventura County Medical Center about 45 minutes after he was shot in the stomach in an apartment on Kirk Avenue in Ventura, authorities said.
Ventura police are continuing to hunt for Thomas Al Corral, 23, the suspected gunman. They are also looking for Ruben Viveros, 19, who accompanied Corral to the apartment complex.
Shortly after midnight, Corral forced his way at gunpoint into the apartment of his 18-year-old girlfriend, the mother of his infant child, police said. Corral threatened the woman’s younger brother and entered a bedroom, where he fired several shots at Rowland, hitting him once in the abdomen, police said.
Rowland ran from the apartment and collapsed in the building’s entryway, police said. Authorities found him there and rushed him to the hospital.
