Ahmanson Buys 21 Branches: H.F. Ahmanson & Co. said it paid a combined $23 million for 21 branch offices of three different savings banks. The Irwindale-based parent of Home Savings bought nine branches from Fidelity Federal Bank, six from Long Beach Bank and six from Hawthorne Savings & Loan. Ahmanson said 16 of the branches will be closed and the deposits moved to nearby Home Savings offices. The remaining branches will change their name to Home Savings.
