A third-inning line drive off the bat of the Texas Rangers’ Gary Redus broke the right wrist of right-hander Mark Clark, the Cleveland Indians’ winningest pitcher.
The wrist will be in a cast for the next four to six weeks. The Indians did not estimate when Clark (11-3) might return.

It looked more like a game in Philadelphia than one in Moosic, Pa., home of the Scranton-Wilkes-Barre triple-A affiliate of the Phillies. Right-hander Curt Schilling, the most valuable player in the National League playoffs last season, worked six strong innings, giving up one run in a rehabilitation assignment. Behind him were center fielder Lenny Dykstra and third baseman Dave Hollins, both hitless in rehabilitation starts.

Third baseman Gary Gaetti was activated from the 15-day disabled list by the Kansas City Royals. . . . Enrique Calero, 22, filed a $15-million lawsuit against the Houston Astros and major league baseball, alleging he was cheated of his amateur status when he was lured into signing a professional contract and then released.
