Teledyne Settles Four More Contract Disputes: The Los Angeles-based company took an $11.3-million pretax charge against second-quarter earnings to reflect a preliminary settlement of four more contracting disputes with the U.S. government. Three of the cases involved Teledyne’s electronics unit in Newbury Park; the other involved its Teledyne Thermatics division in Elm City, N.C. The allegations ranged from delivering inferior military transponders to violating product-testing requirements. Teledyne, which has been trying to settle a rash of criminal and civil fraud cases against the company, said its second-quarter profit rose despite the latest charge, to $11 million from $8.1 million a year earlier.
