Rockwell International Corp. said its fiscal third-quarter earnings rose 12%.
The Seal Beach-based aerospace and electronics firm earned $164.9 million, or 74 cents a share, in the quarter that ended June 30. A year earlier, it earned $147.2 million, or 66 cents a share.
Sales in the quarter were $2.87 billion, up 2% from $2.81 billion.
Donald R. Beall, Rockwell’s chairman, said the results reflect a shift away from work for the U.S. military to commercial and international markets, with international sales the highest ever. Sales to the Pentagon declined from 24% of total company sales in 1993’s third quarter to 19% in the latest period.
Three of the company’s four business segments showed better results: electronics, automotive and graphics. Aerospace earnings fell 9%.
