Dukes Rally to Defeat Idaho in a Supertiebreaker

Despite playing without two starters, the Dukes rallied to beat the Idaho Sneakers, 22-21, in a supertiebreaker, in a World TeamTennis match Sunday in Boise, Ida.
The Dukes (7-0) have won five matches on the road and are the league’s only undefeated team.
Zina Garrison Jackson and Larisa Neiland missed the match because they are playing in the Federation Cup in Frankfurt, Germany. Garrison Jackson is playing for the United States; Neiland for Latvia.
Their replacements, Tami Whitlinger-Jones and Ann Grossman, lost the first set of the match, 6-1, to former Dukes Amy Frazier and Manon Bollegraf. Then Frazier beat Grossman, 6-2, and the Sneakers led, 12-3.
Kelly Jones and Trevor Kronemann beat Rick and Jon Leach, 6-2, in men’s doubles; Jones beat Jon Leach, 6-3, in men’s singles, and Whitlinger-Jones and Kronemann beat Bollegraf and Rick Leach, 6-4, to tie the score, 21-21.
Whitlinger-Jones and and Kronemann won the supertiebreaker, 7-5. The Sneakers, coached by former Dukes and UC Irvine Coach Greg Patton, dropped to 2-5.
Garrison Jackson and Neiland will also miss the Dukes’ next match, Tuesday against the Florida Twist at John Wayne Tennis Club.
